What are you looking to satisfy your deepest longings?

In John 4:7–14, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman at a well and offers her something far greater than the water she came to draw: living water. Though she initially misunderstands His words, Jesus patiently points her beyond the things of this world to the gift only He can give.

In this message, Pastor Jason Jarvis explores Jesus’ remarkable promise that whoever drinks the water He gives will never thirst. We see that Christ crosses cultural and religious barriers to offer the gift of God freely, and that the satisfaction our souls crave cannot ultimately be found in relationships, possessions, entertainment, religious performance, or anything else this world offers.

Like Israel in Jeremiah 2, we are prone to forsake the fountain of living water and dig for ourselves broken cisterns that cannot hold water. Yet Jesus invites thirsty people to come to Him—not with a bucket full of good works, but with empty hands ready to receive.

Jesus does not merely offer us a better version of what the world gives. He offers us Himself. Through Christ, the Holy Spirit becomes a spring of living water within us, bringing new life, cleansing, joy, peace, forgiveness, righteousness, and fellowship with God.

When we find ourselves spiritually dry, dissatisfied, or looking elsewhere for what only Christ can provide, the answer is not to dig another well. It is to return to the Fountain—to abide in Christ, believe His promises, and drink deeply of the life He freely gives.
